Glen Ellen Stream Stewards review a map of the Sonoma Valley Watershed at the start of a creek walk.

Stream Stewards

The Conservancy promotes a grassroots approach to watershed management by recruiting and supporting Stream Stewards, whose role is to educate themselves and others in sound watershed management practices, and to initiate and lead community efforts to implement them.

Glen Ellen stewards on a creek walk learn about their stretch of Sonoma Creek.  Discussion topics include the tour's location in the watershed, native plants, geology, and hydrology, as well as how Glen Ellen residents can encourage a stable ecosystem where plants, fish, wildlife, and people can thrive together.

Learning, Planning, and Acting

The Conservancy provides an opportunity for Stream Stewards working in their local neighborhoods to connect with others and learn about and participate in a broad range of programs and projects aimed at enhancing watershed health.

Sonoma Valley residents attend a Water Wisdom Forum, with a presentation by the Sonoma County Water Agency about local water issues: how the SCWA transports water from the Russian River to Sonoma residents, water conservation methods, and ecological impacts of bottled water.
