Nathanson Creek Preserve Restoration

As a prominent natural park in Sonoma, the Nathanson Creek Preserve includes Sonoma Valley High School, Adele Harrison Middle School, a bike path, and a pedestrian trail. For several years the Sonoma Ecology Center (SEC), Nathanson Creek Preserve Stewardship, students, Cub and Girl Scouts, and businesses have held creek cleanups and restoration workdays to remove invasive plant species, including Himalayan blackberry, and install native plants including oak trees, roses, snowberry, and grasses.

For information about how you can get involved in this project, contact Julie Jehly at julie@sonomaecologycenter.org.

These photos show volunteers at a creek cleanup and a Girl Scout planting native grasses.

In December of 2009, 86 holes were dug with a skid-steer, and over a dozen Conservation Corps of North Bay and AmeriCorps members planted live oak, valley oak, and black oak trees.
