Stewardship Leader Keith Hanover and Sonoma Ecology Center staff discuss the increased sediment and challenges to water flow downstream and at the Highway 12 bridge.

Description: This is the largest stewardship group with members living throughotu the Kenwood community down Sonoma Creek and its many tributaries. We are actively looking for Sonoma Creek and tributary residents who wish to join, regardless of whether you live adjacent to a creek.

Activities: Many Kenwood homeowners experienced extreme flooding during the New Year's Storm of 2006 and we are actively involved in creek restoration and flood control above and below the Highway 12 bridge. We have taken a pro-active approach and contacted the Sonoma Ecology Center to remove fallen trees, debris jams, garbage, non-indigenous plants and trees. This effort is directed with the help of the California Department of Fish & Game, guiding SEC and our stewardship to ensure habitat for fish and other species. We do this with the intent to reduce the potential for property damage due to flooding and in time restore the creeks deep cool pools, riffles for spawning fish, and proper canopy to keep the creek banks in place and its waters shaded and cool. We also host a public educational event, the Water Wisdom Forum.

More Information and How to Join: Send an email to Keith Hanover, Kenwood stewardship leader, or call him at 707-332-8118.

Stream stewards meet with California Department of Fish & Game to discuss how to remove a tree which had fallen across the creek and could pose a flood hazard while also maintaining fish habitat.
